Good afternoon Heather,

I read with great interest your background on taxonomy. I find this subject fascinating, although I don't really understand it. Our company has purchased an archive system, and I need to scan, and somehow index all the companies sales orders. This consistutes 15+ vertical file cabinets of folders that need to be prepped, scanned and a taxonomy prepared.

We manufacture rotary joints, the kind of antennas that are installed in radomes, satellites, Air Traffic Control sites, TV station trucks, and we are now getting into the wind power arena! We're located in Littleton, MA, small company of 54 people.

Anyway, my wish is to extract and create our own taxonomy/metadata base. I intend to get your book, The Accidental Taxonomist, and I'm looking forward to how these are constructed. I, too, wanted to go to Simmons for MLIS, but the cost and timing were never right. And I hope to retire in 5-7 years, although becoming a taxonimist (if I can understand the concept and able to create them) sounds like a great p/t retirement job (at home, with my dog(s)!

I have a BA in English and an AAS in Culinary Arts from Newbury College in Brookline. Idea was to become a culinary editor, but with a young son at home at the time, wasn't really practical. In my present job as Sales Admin, ERM Coordinator, I'm looking forward to creating a super taxonomy.

Perhaps we will meet at your continuing education class or at a taxonomy venue!

Best regards,
Mary
